Take your naughty shoes…

Trek je stoute schoenen aan…

Get out from behind that computer and go out into the woods. Look around you and collect all the beautiful things from the forest.

Making autumn dolls

What do you need:

  • autumn leaves
  • all kinds of autumn fruits (acorns, chestnuts, nuts, pine cones...)
  • toothpicks
  • nail
  • paint
  • brushes
  • glue
  • craft materials (such as chenille wire, googly eyes,…)

Let your imagination run wild and make your own autumn dolls. Make a hole in the fruit using a nail. Insert a toothpick (or a piece of it) into the hole. Connect the different autumn fruits with each other using the toothpicks. Give your doll arms and legs, use an acorn cap or chestnut shell as a hat, dress it with leaves, paint eyes on it,... You can't imagine anything so crazy!

Wild nettle soup

What do you need:

  • branches from the forest
  • matches
  • garden shears
  • garden gloves
  • 400g young nettle leaves (top of the nettle)
  • bucket
  • scale
  • colander
  • 1 onion
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1l vegetable stock
  • pepper and salt
  • soup pot
  • kitchen knife
  • cutting board
  • blender

Go into the forest and look for branches and nettles. To protect your hands, it is best to put on a pair of gardening gloves. Don't forget your bucket and garden shears. Only cut the top leaves from the nettles. Did you know that nettles are packed with vitamins and are therefore super healthy?

Make a campfire outside (this is safest in a fire basket or fire bowl). If you have a heat-resistant pan for an open fire and a rack for your fire, you can also make the nettle soup outside. Nice and adventurous!

Wash the nettle leaves under the tap several times. Let the leaves drain in a colander. Ask mom or dad to finely chop the leaves with a kitchen knife. Peel the garlic and onion and chop finely. Heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil in a soup pan and stew the onion and garlic. Dissolve a vegetable stock cube in 1 liter of water. Add the nettle leaves and stock and cook for about 15 minutes. Use a hand blender to blend the soup finely. Season with salt and pepper.

Dress warmly and enjoy your soup around the campfire!
