Write secret messages

 

If you want to leave a secret message, make a treasure map or write a love letter for someone special, you need invisible ink.

Here I explain how to make invisible ink and how you can conjure up those secret messages.

What do you need:

• Lemons
• Milk
• Tonic
• Vinegar
• Water
• White sugar
• Kitchen knife
• Spoon
• Bowl
• Brush
• Paper
• Match
• Candle in a candlestick
• UV pen

• Writing with lemon juice

Cut a lemon into two halves. Squeeze the two halves into a bowl. Dip your brush in the lemon juice and write your secret message on a piece of paper. Let the paper dry.

• Writing with milk

Pour a little milk into a bowl. Dip your brush in the milk and write your secret message. Let the paper dry.

When your message is dry, you can no longer read it. There is a trick to make your secret messages appear again. Now call an adult to help you. Light a candle. Gently move the paper over the flame. Be careful not to bring the sheet of paper too close to the candle. We don't want to put out a fire.

You can use this trick with your secret messages written with lemon juice and milk.

• Writing with vinegar

Pour a little vinegar into a bowl. Dip your brush in the vinegar and write your secret message. Let the paper dry.

• Writing with tonic

Pour some tonic into a bowl. Dip your brush in the tonic and write your secret message. Let the paper dry.

• Writing with sugar water

Pour water into a bowl and add a few spoons of white sugar. Stir                       mix well until the sugar has dissolved. Dip your brush in the sugar water and write a secret message. Let the paper dry.

When your message is dry, you can no longer read it. Take your UV pen and shine the light on your message. The letters become visible again.
